The latest installment of El Clasico between FC Barcelona and Real Madrid occurred on Sunday, with the Catalan side defeating their arch-rival 3-1 in the Supercopa de Espana at the King Fahd Stadium in Saudi Arabia.
As soon as the ball got rolling in the matchup, Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquets made history. The 34-year-old made history as he tied Lionel Messi and Sergio Ramos for the number of participations in El Clasico (45).

Busquets will have the opportunity to pass Messi and Ramos on March 19th when the two clubs meet again in La Liga. Additionally, both teams are alive in the Copa del Rey tournament, presenting another possible matchup in which the midfielder can have the record to himself.
Nonetheless, that isn’t the only personal achievement that Busquets had on Sunday. The veteran also secured his 31st title with Barcelona, which puts him in third place. The only two players ahead of him are Andres Iniesta (32) and Messi (35).
Barcelona is in three competitions (UEFA Europa League, Copa del Rey and La Liga), where Busquets can tie Iniesta for second place. Should the Catalan side win all three trophies, Busquets can tie Messi for most trophies with Barcelona.
