Transfer News: Spanish Journalist Reveals Likely Outcome For Lionel Messi’s Future

The future of Lionel Messi will be determined in the coming weeks when the January transfer window opens.

Once the calendar turns to Jan. 1, the 35-year-old can talk with any club as he will be a free agent once his contract with Paris Saint-Germain expires in June and can sign a pre-contract for the 2023-24 football season.

Relevo’s Matteo Moretto provided insight on Friday into what will transpire from Messi’s camp in the coming weeks as the veteran goal scorer hopes to have his situation settled.

After this season, the three likely destinations for the Argentine are he remains at PSG, returns to FC Barcelona, or Messi leaves Europe altogether and joins MLS side Inter Miami.

Moretto’s reporting suggests that remaining in the French capital will be the likely decision from him, as the Spanish journalist says a one-year extension is a possible outcome as parties begin talks soon.

For now, Messi is solely focusing on the 2022 FIFA World Cup, where he has a chance to win the trophy that has long eluded him on Sunday when Argentina faces off against France.
