Atletico Madrid midfielder Koke has lauded Paris Saint-Germain forward Lionel Messi as the “best in the world” today.
Messi added to this trophy cabinet in the 2022 FIFA World Cup Final, as he led Argentina to a dramatic penalty shootout win over France. The PSG star scored two goals in the final, and he also slotted home his penalty shootout attempt.
To many, Messi winning the World Cup settled the debate on just who is the best player of all-time. For Koke, who faced off against Messi a multitude of times over the past decade, he believes that the Argentine forward is not only the clear top talent in world football today but also the greatest to have ever played the sport.
“It is the title he was missing,” Koke told Diario AS. “He is the best player of all-time. He has proved it with great regularity: goals, assists, making his team play. … He is justly deserving of winning the World Cup, and we must congratulate him.
“There is no discussion about who is the best in the world.”
Messi sure now has his attention set on the second half of PSG’s season, where the Ligue 1 side will look to cap off the campaign as a treble-winner.
