Report: Argentina’s Projected Starting 11 for the World Cup Final – Where Will Messi Play?

After 63 matches played over the past weeks, it has all come down to the 2022 FIFA World Cup Final. Paris Saint-Germain forward Lionel Messi will lead Argentina against Kylian Mbappe and the France national team in the final of the sport’s biggest tournament.

Messi comes into this fixture having already recorded eight total goal contributions at the 2022 World Cup, including one goal and one assist in the semifinal round win over Croatia.

According to TyC Sports, Argentina manager Lionel Scaloni could decide to make multiple changes from the starting 11 that took care of business against Croatia.

Martinez; Molina, Romero, Otamendi, Martinez, Acuna; De Paul, Fernandez, Mac Allister; Messi, Alvarez

In Argentina’s thrilling quarterfinal victory over the Netherlands, Scaloni called on his side to play under a five-at-the-back setup. Scaloni could opt to roll out this formation against France, with Lisandro Martinez joining the likes of Cristian Romero and Nicolas Otamendi in the backline.

Regardless of the formation that Scaloni ends up going with, Messi is expected to be accompanied by Manchester City forward Julian Alvarez in the attack.

Messi has his sights set on doing what he can to lead Argentina to a World Cup triumph.
