Messi reveals his mindset for Argentina’s World Cup round of 16 matchup vs. Australia

The Argentina national team officially punched its ticket to the 2022 FIFA World Cup Round of 16 on Wednesday, defeating Poland by a 2-0 score to clinch the top spot in Group C.

Paris Saint-Germain forward Lionel Messi did not make the scoresheet in the match, but at the least for Argentina, goals from Alexis Mac Allister and Julian Alvarez were all that the reigning Copa America champions would need to secure the victory over Poland.

Argentina is now set to meet Australia in the World Cup round of 16, and as Messi noted following the victory over Poland, it will not be an effortless task for La Albiceleste to move on into the quarterfinal round of the tournament

“The match with Australia will be very difficult,” Messi said. “Anyone can beat anyone, everything is very even.

“We have to prepare the match in the best way as we always do.”

Messi capped off World Cup group stage play with two goals and one assist. He will now look to lead Argentina to the World Cup quarterfinal round, where it would then meet either the Netherlands or the United States.
