Mbappe Is the Only Active Player Who Has a Realistic Chance to Break This Unreal Messi Record

Paris Saint-Germain forward Lionel Messi shattered multiple records at the 2022 FIFA World Cup. For one, he broke one of Pele’s many World Cup records.

Messi scored a pair of goals in the 2022 World Cup Final against France, including one in the second extra time period. In the end, the PSG star capped off his 2022 World Cup campaign with 10 total goal contributions, with seven coming in the knockout stage.

Overall, Messi now holds the record for the most World Cup goal contributions in the competition’s history with an astounding 21.

Among all active players, only PSG forward Kylian Mbappe has a realistic chance to soon break this notable record. The France star has tallied 14 goal contributions in his World Cup career, including 10 at the 2022 edition of the sport’s biggest tournament.

In the big picture, Messi and Mbappe will soon rejoin PSG to begin preparations for the second half of the club season. PSG will return to Ligue 1 play with a home matchup against Strasbourg later this month.
