Report Reveals PSG Has Eyes on Atlético Madrid Star to Replace Lionel Messi

Paris Saint-Germain sporting advisor Luis Campos is injecting youth into the capital club squad.

This past summer transfer window, no player that arrived was older than 26 years old, and he intends to continue this trend, which explains the possible interest in Atlético Madrid João Félix.

Spanish publication Marca (h/t Paris Fans) reports that PSG is pondering the 22-year-old being the replacement for Lionel Messi, whose contract with the French giants expires in June 2023.

Félix arrived at Atlético Madrid in 2019 for a fee of €127 million; however, the Portugal international has had a challenging 2022-23 football season, and manager Diego Simeone is taking responsibility for the young forward’s poor form.

“All of it,” Simeone said. “All of the bad things he does, I do it worse. The frustration he has is that I have not been able to give him what he needs in order to show the football and the talent he has, but it is all mine, for sure.”

The Atlético Madrid goal scorer has appeared in 122 matches for the La Liga club, scoring 29 goals and recording 18 assists. Playing under Simeone isn’t the ideal system for an offensive player, so perhaps Félix would have more offensive production under any other manager.
