Manchester City forward Julian Alvarez sees that Paris Saint-Germain star Lionel Messi is having yet another “great” season.
Messi was a standout performer in PSG’s 7-2 UEFA Champions League home group stage win over Maccabi Haifa. The Argentine goal-scorer notched four total goal contributions in the contest, including a pair of goals in the first half. The match was essentially over after the first half, as PSG went into the locker room leading by a 4-1 score.
Speaking to ESPN Argentina following Manchester City’s scoreless draw result against Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday, Alvarez took some time to react to Messi’s formidable second season at PSG so far. For the Manchester City striker, it is no surprise that Messi has been able to continually orchestrate dominant showings for PSG.
“It is true that he is having a great year as usual,” Alvarez said. “He is doing very well, so obviously, it is very important for the Argentinian national team.”
As Alvarez touched on, Messi is set to lead the Argentina national team at the 2022 FIFA World Cup. He sure is heading into the tournament in keen form.
