FC Bayern Munich midfielder Jamal Musiala is part of the generation of players that grew up in the Cristiano Ronaldo–Lionel Messi debate. As a result, the 19-year-old had to pick a side.
Musiala revealed that growing up, he was Team Messi over Team Ronaldo and explained his decision as to why the Argentine is, for him, the better player of the two.
“I used to watch a lot of great Barca games with (Lionel) Messi, Xavi and (Andres) Iniesta,” Musiala said (h/t beIN Sports). “It was a joy to watch them play football … despite all my appreciation for Cristiano (Ronaldo), I am in Messi’s camp.”
Additionally, the Bayern Munich starlet went into detail on why he aligns himself with Messi in the debate, so the teenager isn’t afraid to ruffle any feathers of those who believe Ronaldo is the better player of the two.
“He scored so many goals, won so many titles and never changed,” Musiala added. “He stayed true to his principles and his style. I want to follow in his footsteps.”
With more players entering professional football who grew up in the middle of the Mess-Ronaldo debate, these questions and responses will be made for the foreseeable future even after these two legendary players retire.
Nonetheless, as a PSG player, this website has to side with Messi since, of the two, the Argentine was the one who came to the French capital.
