On Tuesday, many were discussing the scoring chance that Kylian Mbappé had against Juventus in the UEFA Champions League, where rather than passing to an unmarked Neymar, he shot the ball and missed.
As a result, the conversation over the two players’ relationship was once again a talking point after their “penalty gate” situation a couple of weeks ago.
Ahead of their Ligue 1 fixture against Stade Brestois 29, manager Christophe Galtier spoke with reporters, and the French tactician was asked about the relationship between Mbappé and Neymar.
“The relationship between Ney and Kylian is very good and I don’t play games,” Galtier said at his press conference (h/t Canal Supporters). “They are associated in training and warm-ups. There was this match situation. I think Kylian talked about it with Ney.
“To have spoken about it with Kylian, there are two stages in the action: the acceleration, where there is the possibility of giving the ball, and the second stage, where he makes the difference in the surface and does not see Ney. There are two seconds to make a decision, and Kylian is focused on the ball to kick. I’m sure he will make assists for Ney. I haven’t felt anything negative since the match about this game action.”
PSG doesn’t need the two players to be the best of friends; however, the capital club does need them on the same page when they’re on the pitch. As of now, the miscues they’ve had on the pitch hasn’t hurt the French giants.
Nonetheless, the Ligue 1 side hopes that these miscommunications don’t hurt the team in the knockout stages of the Champions League as PSG pushes to win the trophy for the first time in club history.
