Paris Saint-Germain’s 5-2 win over Montpellier in Ligue 1 play in August was filled with plenty of drama. For one, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe had a disagreement during the opening half of the contest over just who would take the second penalty kick of the match. In the end, Neymar wound up taking the attempt and scored with ease.
Tensions between the two over this matter did not end there.
L’Equipe took an in-depth look at the growing tensions between Neymar and Mbappe, including their penalty drama in the fixture against Montpellier. The hostility between the two forwards over this dilemma got to the point to where Sergio Ramos had to intervene.
According to the report, Ramos advised Neymar to respect the club’s decision to have Mbappe be the team’s go-to penalty kick taker. He has made clear to Neymar that “even if the club’s decision does not suit him, to stick to it.”
More so, a day after PSG’s victory over Montpellier, tensions rose between Neymar and Mbappe to where Ramos and also Marquinhos had to intervene.
PSG has since not had an issue with Neymar and Mbappe regarding penalty kicks during matches, although it will be noteworthy to see whether the two will end up sparring again over this matter later this season.
