Lionel Messi is off to a potent start to the 2022-2023 season at Paris Saint-Germain. The Argentine forward not only continues to gradually up his goal-scoring form, but he has also picked up where he left off from last season as a reliable playmaker, logging seven assists in the ongoing Ligue 1 campaign.
One can pinpoint numerous reasons for Messi’s promising performances under first-year PSG manager Christophe Galtier. For the Argentine forward, as he spoke to TUDN about, coming into the season simply being “better prepared” has helped him turn back the clock with the Ligue 1 powerhouse.
“For my first season in Paris, it was not easy, because I was discovering a new club, a new environment with family, for the first time in my career,” Messi said.
“But I remained confident because I knew that this season I would be better adapted, better prepared. With a huge desire to enjoy it, to have fun.”
Messi returned from holidays earlier than expected in July, and he went on to feature in all four of PSG’s preseason fixtures. The work from him in the preseason sure has paid off, as he has been among Galtier’s top performers in all competitions this season.
Messi and PSG will return to action on Oct. 1 with a Ligue 1 home clash against OGC Nice.
