The expectations are sky-high for Paris Saint-Germain to win the UEFA Champions League competitions this season after it had quite a hectic summer transfer window period. From the changes made behind the scenes to the midfield reinforcements that it brought in, PSG went all out to give the team the best shot to win the Champions League.
From PSG manager Christophe Galtier’s viewpoint, as he touched on during a pre-match press conference ahead of the home fixture against Juventus, he does not necessarily buy into the notion that his side is the clear-cut, top contender to take home the Champions League trophy later in the season.
“That would be reductive compared to our competitors,” Galtier said. “Every year, there are 8 or 9 teams that believe they can win it, and finally there are favorites that don’t go all the way, surprises, incredible scenarios. That the club has the ambition to win it is legitimate, but I don’t think we are favorites.”
PSG has at the least opened up its Ligue 1 campaign playing as if it is among the serious contenders to make a deep run in the Champions League. The Ligue 1 powerhouse has tallied 24 goals scored in six matches played in the ongoing league campaign.
PSG aims for its seventh win in all competitions this season in its clash with Juventus on Tuesday.
