Three Ligue 1 games is a very small sample size, but this 2022-23 season has shown a different side of Paris Saint-Germain. Yes, the capital club dominates, but their superstar is buying in defensively, which impresses French football pundit Thierry Henry.
Henry praised the defensive performances of Kylian Mbappé, Lionel Messi, and Neymar. The former Gunner added that if the three players commit to tracking back to defend, then France has to be worried, but the rest of Europe too.
“What interests me is seeing what Lionel Messi, Neymar, and Kylian Mbappé do when they don’t have the ball,” Henry said on Prime Sport (via Paris Fans)
“And there, even at 5-1, 6-1, 7-1… they always came back to defend! If they continue like this, I tell you: watch out for France and watch out for Europe too.”
The pundit then shifted and spotlighted what midfielder Vitinha has brought to the PSG squad since arriving this summer from FC Porto. Vitinha got everyone on board in just a few games.
He runs a lot, is very smart in his position, and plays simple. As a result, Henry even admitted to wanting to go onto the pitch to play the way PSG is currently playing.
The main questions regarding how PSG is playing are whether it will translate to the UEFA Champions League and if they can play like this the entire season.
