Report: PSG Beginning Talks to Extend Star Player Amid Interest from Barcelona

Lionel Messi is entering the final year of his contract with Paris Saint-Germain. As a result, the 35-year-old will have to ponder his future at the end of this season.

The Argentine has plenty of options considering FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta and manager Xavi Hernández have discussed the possibility of a return. Furthermore, the draw of the MLS, primarily from Inter Miami, is also there.

However, L’Equipe (via Paris Fans) reports that, like Marco Verratti and Marquinhos, the situation regarding Messi, at the end of the contract in 2023, will happen quite quickly.

PSG has shown positive signs in recent weeks in discussing a new deal as a one-year option is available, and both sides are in agreement. After a difficult first season with the current Ligue 1 champions, the Argentine has hit the ground running.

Messi has the FIFA World Cup on his mind, so it will be interesting to see if the veteran forward decides to extend his contract with PSG or perhaps wait until after the tournament in Qatar is over.
