The Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo debate will forever live on even when both players retire, which will be soon considering both players are in their mid to late 30s.
Los Angeles Galaxy star Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernández played with Ronaldo during his time at Real Madrid and against Lionel Messi while in La Liga. As the MLS celebrates its All-Star Game in St. Paul, Minn., the Mexican footballer was asked to choose between the two.
“I had one [Messi] as a rival and he gave me headaches, the other [Ronaldo] as a teammate and we had great victories, so I think the two are completely different, they can’t even be compared,” Hernández told AS on Tuesday.
Messi is entering the final year of his contract with Paris Saint-Germain and there have always been rumors about the 35-year-old possibly heading to MLS to wrap up his football career.
Inter Miami is the loudest destination for Messi should he ever decide to pick the MLS as his next destination. Next summer, it will be interesting to see where the Argentine chooses to play, whether to extend at PSG, return to Barcelona, or go to North America.
Should Messi go to the United States, there’s no doubt that he will be part of an All-Star Game.
