Pundit Says Why Ex-PSG Boss Is the Right Choice for Man City When Pep Guardiola Leaves

Mauricio Pochettino ended his run as Paris Saint-Germain manager this past week. The Argentine spent one year and a half at the helm of the capital club and reached the UEFA Champions League semifinals in 2021 but was eliminated in a humiliating fashion in 2022 against Real Madrid.

Despite taking some lumps as the manager of the reigning Ligue 1 champions, one English football pundit states that Pochettino could still be a candidate for a top-six Premier League club when a position opens up.

In a segment for talkSPORT, Trevor Sinclair stated that the Argentine tactician should be on standby for the Manchester City job. Pep Guardiola is entering the final year of his contract and has hinted about a possible exit in 2023

“You look at [Pochettino]; he knows how to do with egos. He seems to have a fantastic rapport with players. It doesn’t matter how big the players I’ve just seen him managing Messi and Mbappe, Neymar,” Sinclair said.

“So on that side of things, I think he’s safe hands. I think he’s a charming man. He comes across well in the media, and I actually feel Manchester City might be the club for him.”

Pochettino seems comfortable in the Premier League and coaching in England. The Argentine has coached Southampton and Tottenham Hotspur to some degree of success.

It will be interesting to see if Pochettino decides to hold since he isn’t struggling with money following the payout from PSG and if he can land the Manchester City job should Guardiola leave next summer.

“I think he might have a little sabbatical now because I’m sure he’s not struggling for finances. But I think Manchester City could be the one for him because I think if Pep is going to walk away at a certain stage, that might be a hot seat ready to take Pochettino,” Sinclair said.
