Much talk surrounding Paris Saint-Germain heading into the upcoming new season has centered on Neymar, who is coming off of an injury-riddled campaign. Even amid much doubt on the Brazilian forward’s sheer form ahead of the campaign, PSG manager Christophe Galtier (via PSG TV) sees a “sharp” Neymar.

“I found a very happy, cheerful player, very professional,” Galtier said during a pre-match press conference ahead of the 2022 Trophee des Champions Final against Nantes. “This is an important season for players who are going to the World Cup. He came prepared, looking sharp. He is sharing how he feels, listening and working hard.

“He is a world-class player and it is important to have a player of his caliber.”

Not much went Neymar’s way last season at PSG. For one, he failed to score a single goal in UEFA Champions League play, although he did record a pair of assists in the round of 16 tie against Real Madrid. He was at the least able to finish off the Ligue 1 campaign on a strong note, which included recording at least one goal contribution in PSG’s final seven league matches of the season.

Neymar and PSG now head into a crucial Ligue 1 season that will kick off next weekend, but before it looks ahead to the new campaign, it will have a 2022 Trophee des Champions Final against Nantes tomorrow.
