Over the late stages of the 2021-2022 Ligue 1 season, Mauricio Pochettino often featured Paris Saint-Germain under a three-at-the-back setup. This tactical system may be one that the players will have to get accustomed to in the coming season.
As noted by FootMercato, PSG football advisor Luis Campos is aiming to bring in Christophe Galtier and have him implement a 3-5-2 setup next season.
The report further notes that Lionel Messi could be “installed” in the formation to play as a No. 10. This would then provide the Argentine forward with the freedom to play as an attacking midfielder.
Pochettino rolled out a 3-5-2 setup just once last season, which came in PSG’s 3-0 away win over Angers. The Argentine manager called upon Kylian Mbappe and Angel Di Maria to be slotted upfront as the two main center-forwards in the formation. More so, he also featured other three-at-the-back formations, including a 3-4-3 one in PSG’s 3-3 away draw against Strasbourg.
On Messi’s part, he is coming off of a season where he recorded 20 total goal contributions in 26 matches played.
