Paris Saint-Germain forward Neymar was a keen performer for the club in its Ligue 1 wins over Lorient and Clermont Foot. The Brazilian forward combined for six total goal contributions against the two Ligue 1 sides.
Neymar’s recent performances for PSG has brought many to predict that he will soon return to a world-class level. But for former Ligue 1 winner Ludovic Obraniak, as he recently noted to La Chaine L’Equipe (via Le10Sport), he has some doubts as to whether Neymar will ever return to his prime.
“If the question is whether he can come back to the top … already, look at him, he didn’t have the same physique at all when he was at the top,” Obraniak said. “Physically, he’s completely transformed. He has gained more weight, he is less light, he is less twirling, he is less aerial. … To be at the top level at a certain age, you need to be very demanding.
“He has a certain wear and tear. He may no longer want all that.”
Injuries sure have marred Neymar’s ongoing campaign with PSG. For one, he was sidelined for multiple fixtures in the first half of the season due to an ankle injury suffered in November.
PSG’s upcoming Ligue 1 home fixture against Olympique de Marseille will provide Neymar with another crucial test at this point in the season. A potent, vintage performance from the Brazilian international against Marseille sure will win him more club supporters.
