Report: Lionel Messi Will Play in Argentina’s Last Set of World Cup Qualifying Fixtures

Later this month, the CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying fixtures will resume, and Paris Saint-Germain Lionel Messi doesn’t plan to miss this set of matches.

According to TyC Sports (via AS), Messi has decided to be with the Argentina National Team for these double set of qualifying games for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Despite already punching their ticket to Qatar, the 34-year-old wants to be there for the last home match and not miss the farewell with the people at Estadio Monumental.

Messi wasn’t called up in the last window of qualifying matches due to him recovering from his Covid-19 diagnosis. With Argentina already qualified, there was no need for him to be there.

Argentina will face Venezuela at home on March 25th, and then they will close out with their last game of the qualifying round when they travel to Ecuador on March 29th.

Should PSG advance past Real Madrid next week, the international window will close right before the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals start on April 5-6 and April 12-13.
