Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappé has yet to announce where he will play next season. However, despite reports from Spain indicating that the 23-year-old is Real Madrid bound, there’s another La Liga side looking to step in and sign him.
According to L’Equipe (via Culture PSG) FC Barcelona would also be interested in signing Mbappé and would have let PSG know about their plan to talk with the forward regarding a pre-contract, as stipulated in the regulations.
Barcelona remains in a delicate financial situation (€1.3-billion in debt, indicates L’Équipe), which is why they could pivot from their pursuit of Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland due needing to pay a transfer fee plus wages.
With Mbappé, all the Catalan side would need to pay wages, so economically, it makes sense. Furthermore, the French media outlet adds that France international would not have closed the door to FC Barcelona and would agree to discuss with the Barcelona leaders.
L’Equipe speculates that this is a sign that the PSG striker has still not made a final choice for his future.
