Marquinhos Discusses the Mentality of the PSG Squad After the Champions League Elimination to Real Madrid

It has been well over a week since Paris Saint-Germain was eliminated in the UEFA Champions League round of 16 by Real Madrid. This defeat is still one of the main talking points within the club.

PSG bounced back from the loss after its 3-0 Ligue 1 home win over Bordeaux, but it failed to build on momentum on matchday 29 as it fell to AS Monaco by a 3-0 final score.

In speaking after the match (via L’Equipe), PSG defender Marquinhos opened up on the mindset within the team after the early Champions League exit.

“If you look at the continuity of events, yes, it hurt everyone: the fans, us players,” Marquinhos said. “There was a lot of expectation after the very good first game at the Parc. It’s a defeat that hurts us, but we have other goals to achieve. We only have the Ligue 1 left. We must show another mentality, because otherwise we will lose this title too.”

PSG still has plenty of key league fixtures on its schedule, which include its home clash against longtime rival Olympique de Marseille.

PSG sure will aim to inch closer to clinching Ligue 1 after the upcoming international break. The side will return to action on April 3 with a home matchup against Lorient.
