There will be no French Cup for Paris Saint-Germain as the capital club crashed out in penalty kicks to OGC Nice. After a 0-0 result, the match went straight to the shootout, where their domestic cup hopes ended.
In two weeks, PSG will face off against Real Madrid for its first-leg in their UEFA Champions League Round of 16. Following this elimination, manager Mauricio Pochettino spoke to the media at his press conference.
He discussed whether there are any positives that his squad can take from this match and into their tie against Los Blancos.
“We are eliminated, so it is difficult to bring out something positive. The knockout matches are different from the others, where you have to show consistency above all else. In these encounters, your fate often depends on luck, especially with penalty shootouts,” Pochettino said.
“I think we were better against a difficult team but couldn’t take our chance for 90 minutes. We are optimistic for the future. We still have competitions to play: Ligue 1 and the Champions League. Circumstances will be different, but we continue to see ahead.”
