Paris Saint-Germain manager Mauricio Pochettino has dealt with a lot of criticism since taking the managerial role with his former club over a year ago. The Argentine has had a bag of mixed results in the French capital.

As a result, over the last couple of months, there has been speculation over the future of Pochettino. Nonetheless, former Bayern Munich right-back Willy Sagnol spoke with beIN Sports and defended the 49-year-old from some of the criticism he’s faced this season.

“It’s been a bit of a tough season. But it was above all the arrival of Lionel Messi that changed a lot of things. It’s wonderful to have a player like that in Ligue 1, for the image of the championship.

“But for a coach, it’s super hard to integrate. When you also have Kylian Mbappé, Neymar and Angel Di Maria… How do you get them all to play together? It’s not possible, there is no coach who would manage to play the four sets in important Champions League matches where the level is so high.”
