Veteran Argentine forward Lionel Messi has much confidence that Paris Saint-Germain can go on and win the UEFA Champions League competition this season.
Speaking to PSG Le Mag, the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner noted that while the Champions League is quite an arduous competition to win, he sees that PSG can win it all in this campaign.
“I think we have the team to win it,” Messi said. “I think we are very excited and we are very eager to achieve it, but we have to be calm, because as I say, it is difficult to win the Champions League.
“The best team doesn’t always win and you have to be aware of all the details and make a great team, because in the end the strong teams are the ones that achieve their goals. And we are on the way and we are looking to make the team even more stronger.”
PSG moved a step closer to its Champions League aspirations earlier this month, as it clinched a 1-0 win over Real Madrid in their UEFA Champions League round of 16 first leg clash. A late, game-winning goal from Kylian Mbappe provided PSG with a crucial 1-0 advantage heading into the second leg of the tie.
Messi has been in promising form in the Champions League competition so far this season, which includes five goals scored.
Much attention will be centered as to how Messi and company will perform in the return leg against Real Madrid next month.
