Gonzalo Higuaín Hopeful to See Lionel Messi Play in MLS

After this season, Lionel Messi will only have one year left on his contract with Paris Saint-Germain. The 34-year-old does have an option for a third year, but should both parties not decide to exercise it, the possibility of heading to the United States increases, and a former teammate would welcome that.

Veteran striker Gonzalo Higuaín is optimistic his former Argentina national teammate will join him in Major League Soccer one day. In an interview with Stats Perform (via AS), the 34-year-old stated that MLS would benefit a lot from having Messi play in the league.

“It is a very important league, and it is growing a lot,” Higuain said. “Important players are coming, and I think that in the future, it will continue to grow much more.”

“I hope [Messi goes to MLS] because it would be a benefit for MLS and for the country, and if he so wishes, he would have fun and be happy here.”

For the last couple of years, Messi has been linked to Inter Miami, the club that Higuaín plays for and co-owned by former footballer David Beckham. If the Argentine decides to end his venture in the French capital next season, then MLS could be an option.

Furthermore, Messi could be exchanging life in the city of romance for the sunny weather of South Florida.
