Former Italian forward Alessandro Del Piero sees that Lionel Messi, unlike during his final year at Barcelona, is now playing in a Paris Saint-Germain side filled with top talents.
Del Piero took some time to speak to Sky Sport Italia, where he drew a notable comparison between the latter stages of the Argentine’s run at Barca to now at PSG.
“In Barcelona, there were Messi and ten others,” Del Piero said. “Here we are talking about a player in an all-star team.”
Barca did see quite the notable turnover in the late stages of Messi’s run at the club, which saw the departure of Neymar and the gradual decline of Luis Suarez. Now at PSG, as Del Piero touched on, Messi is playing alongside multiple world-class talents across the board.
Neymar just made his return from injury in PSG’s UEFA Champions League round of 16 first leg fixture against Real Madrid. It will be noteworthy to see whether Messi, Neymar and Mbappe will all feature together in PSG’s upcoming Ligue 1 fixture against Nantes.
