Paris Saint-Germain kicked off their first match of 2022 against Vannes OC, who currently play in Championnat National 2, the fourth level of French football. The capital club picked up a 4-0 win with a hat-trick from Kylian Mbappé.
However, one aspect of the game that had supporters excited is over having Xavi Simons and Edouard Michut in the starting eleven to see if both players can look comfortable with the first team, which both displayed.
Simons had an assist and four key passes in 90 minutes of action; meanwhile, Michut had two key passes and nearly scored a goal, but his shot hit the woodwork.
Following the victory, PSG manager Mauricio Pochettino spoke at his press conference about their performance and the other young players who saw playing time in this Coupe de France match.
“Very happy with Edouard and all the young players,” Pochettino said. “I believe that we have several young players who need time but also enough space to show that they can gradually reach the level required to play at PSG. This type of match always allows them to gain experience.”
