Lionel Messi is one of the four Paris Saint-Germain players who tested positive for COVID-19. The 34-year-old contracted the virus means he will be out for the capital club’s Coupe de France matchup against Vannes OC.
PSG’s next game will be on the 9th versus Olympique Lyonnais, and manager Mauricio Pochettino spoke about the possibility of Messi being fit for the matchup during his press conference with the media.
“We have been living with this virus for two years. There are things that we can not control; we can have it even by taking all the precautions. Messi is in contact with our medical staff. Will he be able to play against Lyon? I do not know. He will not be able to travel to France as long as his test is positive,” Pochettino said.
The positive test serves as a reminder that the virus remains an issue, and the squad will need to take precautions to make sure they don’t lose players for any other matches.
