Pochettino Reacts to Wijnaldum’s Overall Performance vs. Lyon

Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum earned a start in the away Ligue 1 encounter with Olympique Lyonnais. The Dutch midfielder went on to feature in 83 minutes of the contest, as he completed 95 percent of his passes and won 33 percent of his ground duels.

In speaking following the result (via L’Equipe), PSG manager Mauricio Pochettino touched on Wijnaldum’s showing in the draw result against Lyon. Overall, the Argentine manager has taken notice of the midfielder’s form.

“It’s also a question of balance,” Pochettino said. “Of players available. I don’t think it’s a question of position but of form. Wijnaldum has a great experience, he has played for big clubs. He is used to playing in different positions.”

Wijnaldum has been a regular for PSG in all competitions so far this season. He has appeared in 17 league matches so far in the campaign and also had a feature role in the Coupe de France round of 32 encounter with Vannes.

Wijnaldum’s roller-coaster form has been much in question as of late, and it will be noteworthy to see whether Pochettino has any major tactical changes in mind for him over the remainder of the campaign.
