Even before Lionel Messi arrived at Paris Saint-Germain, he had already made notable history with Angel Di Maria. The two have shined over their ongoing runs with the Argentina national team, which includes the triumph at the 2021 Copa America tournament.
For Di Maria, on-field chemistry has been of high importance in his time sharing the pitch alongside Messi with La Albiceleste and at PSG. In speaking to PSG TV, the club’s all-time leader in assists went in-depth on this matter.
“I think it’s a good thing to have a connection with Leo, because I know him, because I know where he normally positions himself, where he looks for the ball, where he usually takes it to be able to score or to recover it before a duel,” Di Maria said. “After that, it’s obvious that when you play for a club, the movements of the other team-mates, from Kylian to Marco, of those who play, make his own movements different too.
“I think it’s a bit of everything and that little by little, each piece will fit together, and he will improve more and more, like the rest of the group.”
Recognizing each other’s off-ball movements sure has been vital to their success together on the pitch.
PSG sure will call upon both Di Maria and Messi to continue to lead the way for the side over the remainder of the campaign, including in UEFA Champions League play. A round of 16 clash with Real Madrid in this competition awaits them in the coming month.
