Ronaldinho Provides a Takeaway of Messi’s Early Run at PSG

As many others were over the recent summer transfer window, longtime Brazilian midfielder Ronaldinho was caught off by surprise when it was announced that Lionel Messi would sign with Paris Saint-Germain as a free transfer.

In speaking to PSG TV, the one-time Ballon d’Or winner offered his thoughts on Messi’s move to the French powerhouse and why he is much pleased to at the least see his former Barcelona teammate play at the Ligue 1 side.

“I didn’t expect him to arrive,” Ronaldinho said. “I thought he would finish his career at Barcelona. But I was very happy to see him at PSG, a club that is very dear to me. It’s a surprise but a good surprise for me. He is a great person.”

Messi opened up his PSG run on a rather slow start, but he did pick up his form to finish off PSG’s first half schedule, which included five goals scored in UEFA Champions League group stage play.

For now, Messi sure will have plenty of challenges upcoming over the second half of the season, as PSG aims to not only claim a domestic double but also win the Champions League competition for the first time in club history.
