‘It May Not Be the Idea of the Century’ – Pundit Questions PSG for Playing Sergio Ramos 90 Minutes in Return From Calf Injury

Paris Saint-Germain welcomed Sergio Ramos onto the pitch as the 35-year-old made his debut against AS Saint-Étienne in a 3-1 victory. However, the former Real Madrid captain played all 90 minutes but hasn’t played in the last two matches.

Hindsight is 20/20 but having Ramos, who was coming off a calf injury, play 90 minutes in his first game back doesn’t seem like a bright idea, as journalist Damien Degorre stated on La Chaîne L’Equipe (via Paris Fans).

“What I think is that having made him play 90 minutes, it may not be the idea of the century as for Marco Verratti who plays 75 minutes against Nantes when he had not played since four weeks. I want to wait for what will happen after Sunday,” Degorre said.

PSG plays Brugge Tuesday and then has a Sunday matchup against AS Monaco. If Ramos misses both of these matches, it’s a sign to begin worrying, says Degorre.

“Sergio Ramos is due to resume training. Will he be there against Bruges in the Champions League on Tuesday?” Degorre said.

“If he’s not there against Brugge, then I think it’s going to be a problem because I think the evil would get deeper than it can be right now. If he doesn’t play again against Bruges and Monaco, then I’ll be worried.”

Ramos showed the qualities that he could bring to the pitch during his start against Saint-Étienne; some even went as far as to say that he should be the team captain. Nonetheless, it felt like it was worth the wait, so seeing the defender sidelined again is disappointing.
