Paris Saint-Germain star Angel Di Maria has been in the rumor mill a multitude of times over the past years in regard to a possible departure from the club. For one, the Argentine playmaker was once linked with clubs such as Barcelona.
Still, Di Maria remains with PSG, where he has gone on to establish his place among the most prolific players to ever feature for the Ligue 1 side.
In speaking to the Argentine-based outlet TNT Sports, the Argentina national team star reflected on the notable rumors of a move to Barcelona years ago, where he noted that if he had joined the Catalan club, it would have only been to play alongside longtime Barca star Lionel Messi.
“I was very close to going to Barcelona,” Di Maria said. “If I went, it would have been only to play with him. When he left, I was happy. It was the best thing that happened to me, playing with him is a dream I had. It’s something unique.
Both Di Maria and Messi have so far made plenty of history over their run together with La Albiceleste. Now, the two are looking to do the same at PSG this season. They have won the UEFA Champions League competition before in their careers, but they sure are looking to claim another winners’ medal in this competition later this season.
