Paris Saint-Germain fell 2-1 to Manchester City on matchday five of the UEFA Champions League group stage. However, the capital club did clinch its spot in the tournament’s knockout stage following Club Brugge’s loss to RB Leipzig.
Following their defeat, manager Mauricio Pochettino spoke to beIN Sports France, where the Argentine tactician was disappointed by the overall result. Nonetheless, he stated that the more important matter was that the squad sealed their passage to the knockout stage.
“The objective is fulfilled. We qualified for the knockout stages. We would have liked to have finished first, but we couldn’t win tonight. Manchester City is a great team. The first half was difficult, but in the second half, we found a way to dominate and play and get chances,” Pochettino said.
“We may have had a bit of bad luck, but we still have to give glory to City. […] We know we are going to suffer. We wanted to win here. When you play at this level, sometimes you have to suffer. At one point in the game, we played well; we had a few opportunities. To be honest, Manchester City made us suffer a little bit tonight.
