‘The Problem Is the Timing’ – Lionel Scaloni Defends Lionel Messi Call-Up Despite PSG’s Concerns Over Injury

Paris Saint-Germain and the French media didn’t hide their feelings when the Argentina national team decided to call up Lionel Messi despite the 34-year-old dealing with a hamstring injury.

Messi’s hamstring kept him out of their last two matches against RB Leipzig and FC Girondins de Bordeaux.

The Argentine forward did head to Madrid to treat the injury, but the decision to put Messi on their squad for Argentina’s World Cup qualifiers didn’t sit well with those in France.

Nonetheless, manager Lionel Scaloni stated during his press conference to the media that they’re not to blame for calling up Messi. If PSG is upset, they should focus their anger on the schedule.

“I understand the position of PSG. Lately, Lionel Messi has often been with the national team for timing reasons. We are in order when we summon him. The problem is the timing,” Scaloni said.

PSG will be monitoring the situation from afar as Messi intends to play in both of Argentina’s World Cup qualifying matches against Uruguay and Brazil. It’s interesting to see if the capital club decides to take action should he favor the injury at any point during these two matches.
