Paris Saint-Germain has failed to secure a long-term solution to the defensive midfield role when Thiago Motta departed a few years ago. The capital club has brought in various players to grasp that role, but no one has consistently claimed that position.
The French giants appear to be taking another swing at finding that solution at defensive midfielder. According to O Jogo, PSG is expressing interest in Sporting CP midfielder João Palhinha.
The 26-year-old has been at the Lisbon-based club since 2016, helping them win the Primeira Liga last season.
Furthermore, it may not come as a surprise that the French giants might have taken a liking to the player as they likely had their eye on him while scouting Nuno Mendes, who they acquired this summer.
Palhinha has made 71 appearances for Sporting, scoring 14 goals and registering four assists. The Portugal international brings the height that PSG lack in the midfield, with Danilo Pereira being the only one over 6′ 0″ at the position.
When it comes to the possible cost, the Sporting midfielder is valued at €21-million per Transfermarkt.
