Paris Saint-Germain forward Lionel Messi was subbed off at halftime of his team’s Ligue 1 home fixture against Lille OSC. There was much speculation that this change may have come because of tactical reasons. But as PSG manager Mauricio Pochettino noted after the game, this decision was made due to Messi’s minor muscle issue.
During the fixture, cameras were rolling when Messi was shown in clear discomfort with his left hamstring.
The Argentine recorded two shots and created a mere one goal-scoring chance during his time on the pitch. It remains to be seen whether he will go on to feature against RB Leipzig in UEFA Champions League group stage play this week.
