Paris Saint-Germain has not kicked off the new season on a dominant note in all competitions. But so far, the side holds the top spot in the Ligue 1 standings and its UEFA Champions League group.
PSG is set to face off against Lille up next in Ligue 1 play. Ahead of the match, Lille manager Jocelyn Gourvennec provided his take (via Lille’s official website) on PSG’s form with Lionel Messi, where he did not offer an in-depth analysis on this matter but noted that the French powerhouse still has one formidable squad.
“After that, this is the work of Mauricio Pochettino,” Gourvennec said. “They got [Lionel] Messi back and they still have a very high quality squad. When you look at the results, they are able to score in every game, even if they didn’t do it against OM, but it’s very rare.
“After that, it’s not for me to comment on their team balance, it’s more for their coach. We have to prepare ourselves to play against a team that has a lot of qualities, so in terms of concentration and determination we have to be at the top.”
It will be noteworthy to see on whether Messi goes on to exert a keen impact in this upcoming match. The Argentine forward still has not scored a league goal with the French powerhouse this season, although he has notched a trio of goals in UEFA Champions League group stage play.
