Scaloni Analyzes How Pochettino Can Get the Best Out of Messi at PSG

Lionel Messi is off to quite a roller-coaster start to his Paris Saint-Germain career. The Argentine forward has only scored one goal over four matches with PSG this season.

Argentina national team manager Lionel Scaloni sees that for Messi to succeed at PSG, it will center on the team not heavily relying on the six-time Ballon d’Or winner over a game-by-game basis.

Scaloni spoke to TyC Sports where he detailed on why it will take more than just standout performances from Messi for PSG to find success this season and also offered takeaways of the French side’s UEFA Champions League group stage showing against Manchester City.

“A team that has Messi has to have players with good feet next to him,” Scaloni said. “You can’t have 10 players who only want to have the ball and none of them are vertical. We have them and that’s the best option.

“You can’t always have the initiative for 90 minutes. City owned the game, but it was won by the team that was more decisive.”

As of late, several players have stepped up their play for PSG, from Kylian Mbappe to Ander Herrera. Still, other talents sure will be called upon to chip in for the team over the course of the lengthy season, including new signings Sergio Ramos and Nuno Mendes.

It sure has been a work in progress so far for PSG manager Mauricio Pochettino this season.
