The FIFA international window is here, and various Paris Saint-Germain players are with their respective national teams. One of them is midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum, who recently spoke to a media outlet in the Netherlands about playing alongside Lionel Messi.
In an interview with AD, the PSG midfielder stated that he’s eager to arrive back at the capital club to play with Messi, considering he didn’t get the chance to do so during the few minutes that the 34-year-old played against Stade de Reims last weekend.
“I only trained with Messi. When he came in last weekend, I was already out. We have so much quality, but the coach still has to turn it into a team. Messi is special. I immediately understood why Frenkie de Jong was so enthusiastic about the person Messi. He is so normal,” Wijnaldum said.
When the French giants resume their Ligue 1 schedule, they’ll welcome Clermont Foot 63 to the Parc des Princes on September 11th.
This will likely be Messi’s first start since the Argentine forward is currently with Argentina playing in their World Cup qualifiers. Wijnaldum likely isn’t the only player on the PSG squad chomping at the bit to play alongside Messi for over 90 minutes and at full strength.
