Argentina National Manager Scaloni Discusses Messi’s Free Transfer Move to PSG

Lionel Messi’s free transfer move to Paris Saint-Germain was among the headline signings of what turned out to be a hectic summer transfer window

Argentina national team manager Lionel Scaloni has no preference over where Messi plays at the club level. The Copa America-winning manager at the least wants Messi featuring for a top club in Europe, which he spoke further about during a press conference on Wednesday (via TyC Sports).

“As for preferences, it doesn’t change us much,” Scaloni said. “We know that he is in one of the best clubs in Europe, that he is going to compete for the best and that is the most important thing.”

The new PSG forward recently made his first-ever appearance with the team during its Ligue 1 fixture against Reims, where he was a second half substitute.

Messi is much in need of playing time minutes, which he is slated to receive over Argentina’s upcoming 2022 World Cup qualifying fixtures. The longtime forward will be looking to do his part to help Argentina maintain its top-two spot in the 2022 CONMEBOL World Cup Qualifying table.
