The talk of football as of late has centered on the speculation over whether Lionel Messi will join Paris Saint-Germain. Messi remains a free agent after Barca announced that it could not re-sign the forward to a multiyear deal due to financial complications.
Following the Ligue 1 fixture against Troyes AC, Pochettino was asked if the rumors linking Messi to PSG have been a distraction to the team as of late. Rather than debunking the rumor or opting not to answer the question, Pochettino responded with a noteworthy answer.
“The players are professionals,” Pochettino said. “Today, with social networks, everyone has access to information and saw that Lionel Messi would not continue in Barcelona. His name has been associated with different clubs. But I believe that the team is professional and has disregarded that for this game. And that it will remain focused until the end of the mercato.”
For now, Pochettino will look ahead to PSG’s next league fixture, which will come against Strasbourg.
