Video: ‘I Am Proud, With Great Emotions’ – Former PSG Defender Discusses the Arrival of Lionel Messi

Lionel Messi is officially a Paris Saint-Germain player. As many tuned into the press conference to help unveil the player, PSG TV had plenty of former players provide their thoughts on the 34-year-old’s arrival.

Former capital club defender Juan Pablo Sorin joined the program where he spoke about his compatriot arriving in Paris. One of the first questions that Sorin answered is whether he ever thought that Messi would be at PSG.

“I am proud, with great emotions. [Messi is] the best player in the world. It’s a big-time for him. He won the title with the national team after 28 years without a major trophy for Argentina; it was a very special moment. And now, I think he’s arriving at the Parc des Princes at the best time of his life, with his desire to give everything for his last years. But he is in great shape!” Sorin said.

Brazil has had a strong connection with the French capital with the likes of Ronaldinho, Raí, and Neymar Jr. wearing the Parisien colors. However, the Ligue 1 side has a strong connection with Argentina, which Sorin commented on.

“Yes, there are a lot of Argentinian players in Paris. Yes, I felt it. Everyone was watching TV yesterday; it was a crazy day. After what happened in Barcelona, now it’s another stage, another era, with this jersey that I really like,” Sorin said.

Finally, Sorin ended the interview with a message to Messi as the former Barcelona player calls Paris home over the next two years.

“I would tell him to enjoy, to be curious in the city of Paris. We must take advantage of this city and the extraordinary group that there is in Paris. But also from coach Pochettino. I still give it all my strength,” Sorin said.
