Following Paris Saint-Germain’s free transfer signing of Lionel Messi, many have speculated on the tactical plans that manager Mauricio Pochettino may roll with for this season.
Pochettino certainly has plenty of options for PSG this season, especially as the Argentine forward can play as a center forward, central attacking midfielder, or right winger.
For PSG midfielder Angel Di Maria, he is looking ahead to just how the Ligue 1 side will play with Messi now in the fold, which he spoke further about to TyC Sports.
“I think Pochettino can put together a great team,” Di Maria said. “With so many stars, there is the responsibility to do things well, but everyone has their role and that’s what’s important.
“I would like to play in my right position or in the middle like at Real Madrid, but it’s up to the coach to decide. Wherever I play, I will try to do my best and I will do my best to be a starter.”
Like Messi, Di Maria can also play as a central attacking midfielder or a winger.
Pochettino will have plenty of options on the formation plans for this season, which may include lining up the team under a 4-2-3-1 setup. The versatility of several of his players will surely open the door to possibly rolling out a multitude of different formations over the course of this season.
