France opened up their UEFA European Championship tournament with a 1-0 victory over Germany. Real Madrid defender Raphaël Varane spoke to the media where Canal Supporters relayed the comments made by the 28-year-old defender.
One of the questions that Varane answered is over playing alongside Paris Saint-Germain defender Presnel Kimpembe. The defender sheds light on the dialogue that the defenders have on the pitch.
Varane and Kimpembe could be teammates outside of the France national team as rumors circulating link Varane to PSG.
“Kimpembe and I have complementary qualities. Whether it’s before the game, at half-time, or on the pitch to find out who is scoring and covering, we talk a lot. The more we play together, the more automatisms we have. In these kinds of matches, it’s not a question of motivation. Rather, it’s a matter of focus and determination in what you do,” Varane said.
“We motivate each other, and also with the other teammates in defense. We also spoke a lot with our circles to defend well and succeed in countering opposing attacks. We played against a great team where there were a lot of permutations, movements, and stalls in depth. So you had to be very focused. We discussed a lot to be successful.”
