PSG Sporting Director Leonardo Defends the Decision to Sack Tuchel

Thomas Tuchel is just days removed from winning the UEFA Champions League with Chelsea following its 1-0 victory over Manchester City in the final. This win for the German manager is personal redemption for him considering that he fell a bit short with Paris Saint-Germain in last year’s Champions League final.

Tuchel’s Champions League triumph with Chelsea has brought many to call out PSG for its decision to sack him last year. PSG shocked the footballing world when it parted ways with Tuchel in late December following a sluggish start to the season, which included losses to the likes of Lille OSC and Olympique de Marseille in Ligue 1 play.

PSG sporting director Leonardo is not looking back on the call to sack Tuchel with any regrets. Leonardo recently shared his first reaction (via Le10Sport) to Tuchel and former PSG defender Thiago Silva’s triumph in the Champions League final.

“It’s football, it’s things that happen, it turns,” Leonardo said. “I am happy. PSG made a good choice. These are cycles that pass in a club. Thiago Silva too, it’s great to see him, even if he’s injured.”

Leonardo is currently in another managerial dilemma, as recent reports have noted that Mauricio Pochettino is considering ending his run with PSG. It will be noteworthy to see just how this managerial saga will play out.
