Kylian Mbappe once again topped out as the top scorer in Ligue 1 as the forward scored a league-high 27 goals over the now recent 2020-2021 campaign. Unlike in other leagues, the race to be Ligue 1’s top goal-scorer was never close as Mbappe led the way throughout the season.
For Mbappe, this is the third straight season in which he has finished as the top scorer in Ligue 1. As noted by Statsdufoot, Mbappe became the first player to accomplish this feat since Jean-Pierre Papin did so with Olympique de Marseille. Papin finished as the French First Division’s top goal-scorer in five straight seasons from the 1987-1988 campaign up to the 1991-1992 one.
Mbappe is well capable of also recording a five-season streak of finishing as Ligue 1’s leading goal-scorer. It will be up to him if he aims to do so, especially considering that he remains in a contract extension dilemma with PSG.
Mbappe finished the campaign logging the first 40-plus goals in all competitions season of his career so far.
