Former Barcelona prospect and current Leganes defender Sergi Palencia detailed why Neymar has the edge over Kylian Mbappe as a forward.
Neymar and Kylian Mbappe have continued to lead the way for Paris Saint-Germain. When both are healthy and available, they each have the potential to rank up there amongst the top goal-scoring duos in the game today.
Palencia was a Barcelona prospect at one point in his career, although he did not end up playing in an official match with the side. However, Palencia was in Barca’s youth system when Neymar established his world-class status during his time with the Catalan powerhouse.
“I see Neymar slightly superior to Mbappe,” Palencia said. “In terms of the impact on the team, when both are able to play, I find that it is more Neymar’s team than Mbappé. In terms of pure talent, Neymar is for me the second-best player in the world, there is no doubt about it, even if he was really impacted by injuries, which made him miss great matches.”
PSG will need the two to continue to put together standout performances over the remainder of the season, especially in key upcoming matches against the likes of Lille OSC and FC Bayern Munich.
